How UpTrendDownTrend supports stock trend research
UpTrendDownTrend is a research-only web app for studying symbols it tracks. It brings dated market data, two proprietary trend readings, manually run Filters, saved symbol groups, and hypothetical scenarios into one workspace. It does not recommend buying, selling, or holding a security.

What are Trend 1 and Trend 2?
Trend 1 is the more responsive proprietary reading and provides downtrend-warning context. Trend 2 is smoother and provides uptrend-warning context. Their direction, movement toward or through zero, relative position, and agreement can be reviewed alongside price history and other research. Their exact calculation is proprietary. Neither reading is a probability, forecast, or trade recommendation.
What do the warning thresholds mean?
The product marks Trend 1 near zero, at approximately 25% of its recent high, as potential downtrend-warning context. It marks Trend 2 rising toward zero, within 15% of its recent low, as potential uptrend-warning context. These are interpretation thresholds, not probabilities or recommendations. Review them alongside the readings' direction, zero crossings, and price history.
How can I research a stock symbol?
The Symbols Universe is the set of symbols tracked by UpTrendDownTrend and available to an account. It is not every listed security or the entire market. Browse the latest loaded market session, search for a known ticker, or open Details for available company information, historical closing prices and volume, the 50-day moving average, trend readings, and charts.
Market-session dates describe stored US trading sessions, not the viewer's current clock. UpTrendDownTrend labels projected scenario rows separately from historical observations.
How do Filters and collections differ?
Filters are manually run screens over All Symbols or a selected collection. Choose a recent market-day lookback and conditions such as trend crossings, distance from the 50-day moving average, or proximity to a 52-week high or low. The result is the newest qualifying row for each matching symbol. A Filter does not run continuously or send trading alerts.
A collection saves explicit symbol membership for later research. It can represent a market segment, watchlist, trend group, or research theme, and it can scope Symbols, Filters, and Historical Overall Trends. A collection does not store positions, trades, allocation, or portfolio performance. A Filter preset saves criteria to load again; it does not save scope, results, or an executed screen.
How do I screen a watchlist for stock trend conditions?
Here is an example of using a collection as a research watchlist. It describes the workflow, with no claimed matches or investment outcomes. You can also browse the Universe or search a known ticker without running a Filter first.
- Save the symbols you want to study in a collection. Membership stays as you set it until you change it.
- Open Filters and select that collection as the scope. Choose the lookback and a condition you want to investigate, such as a trend crossing or distance from the 50-day moving average.
- Run the Filter. Review the market-session date on each match: the newest qualifying row can be an earlier session within the selected lookback.
- Open a matching symbol's Details to compare the reading with historical price, volume, and charts. A match means the chosen condition was met in loaded data; it is not a recommendation.
Saving a Filter preset saves the criteria for reuse. Loading it does not run the screen or restore the collection scope. New matches do not automatically change your collection's membership.
Does Predictor forecast stock prices?
No. Predictor calculates how Trend 1 and Trend 2 would respond if selected price, volume, and projected-session assumptions occurred. Quick Predict offers a shorter comparison. Forward Look starts from Filter results, applies standard price paths, and rechecks selected conditions. These tools do not estimate how likely the assumptions are or what the market will do.
An illustrative scenario question
You might ask how the readings would change if a selected symbol's closing price were higher across a chosen number of projected sessions while volume followed your selected assumption. Predictor calculates the response to those inputs. The resulting rows are modeled scenarios, and the assumed path is not a price target or an expected return. Compare those projected rows with the dated historical rows before drawing a research conclusion.
How current and complete is the data?
The workspace shows the latest loaded market session when data is available. That date can differ from today's date. Data, trend readings, Filters, and scenario outputs may be delayed, incomplete, or inaccurate. Review the displayed session and supporting data before using a reading in further research.
